Iceland’s Government Resigns After Breakdown of Coalition

26 01 2009

Iceland’s Conservative Government have all resigned after growing Economic pressures broke down the coalition.

The Prime Minister has obviously had a lot on his plate and this has been a growing hardhip on his back and this can’t have been good for business on the country that has had growing problems sourcing from Britain after they seized the assets of some of the major banks in Iceland because of links to some of Britain’s money inside the country.

Currency rates in Iceland are extremely low and this has came out to show that perhaps the Iceland government were not set to lead their country through such an event that they obviously did not expect. The opposition party, the Social Democrats, have been pushing for power, quite unfairly, and the government reacted in a bad way and were discredited highly by the Conservatives. The PM called for elections in May however this was rejected and he could no longer cope.

UN stops aid going to Gaza

8 01 2009

The United Nations have today decided to pull-out their aid that is going into the trouble-ridden Gaza Strip. This does sound rather mean as a headline but if you read into the stories you get the reasons and justify’s it to an extent.

The United Nations are sending aid to the Gaza strip, under Israelian allowance, but STILL these aid workers get killed by Israel attacks and offensives on the city. I find this utterly ridiculous that Israel are even taking action against innocent civilians who cannot protect themselves against rockets and constant attack.

Israel have made a great mistake in doing this as the world has responded quite badly and has pushed for a cease fire. However Israel have ignored this, to an extent. They did let a 3 hour period for civilians to bury their dead. Although this may seem as a good deed to the Israeli’s burying and remembering your dead should not be done and dusted within 3 hours. This is utterly ridiculous. They have proved their point there is nothing left for them to do. The mistake that they have made may have destroyed any hope of relationship between Gaza, Lebanon and surrounding countries.

As we all know dashed relationships during hard times is never good but if you are in a WORLDWIDE crisis such as a credit crunch then your relationships with other countries should try and keep the sceptism between two countries away.

Last Ditch Attempt to Block the HBOS Takeover

30 11 2008

A group of businessmen, lawyers and customers have turned to legal ruling over blocking the HBOS takeover.

This particular story has stalked the news for quite a while, with the deal is off, the deal is on, the deal is off back and forth like tug-of-war. However this time it seems as thought, if this legal action goes through, then the side of the deal not going through is going to win.

This group are aiming to bring legal action against Lord Mandelson’s decision to allow the deal to go though. This action would make this decision obsolete if passed.

The MAG (Mergers Action Group) I believe are fighting for the right cause because Halifax Bank of Scotland should keep its headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland.

If a plan has been sought to sort out HBOS, without having to go down the route of a takeover. then it would be so much better. We should not have a takeover because:

  • There would be unfair competition in the Financial system
  • They would own 1/3 of the mortgage market
  • Thousand of jobs would be cut
  • The headquarters would no longer be used.

Any of these things either creates an unfair advantage or loss of jobs. Although it is right to sort out the financial system. However I do not think that cutting people’s jobs and perhaps cutting off an income is not a good thing for today’s spiraling-out of control Economic society.

Chrome Used More In October than September?

30 11 2008

The current internet browser market stands at Internet Explorer being the main browser being used and Firefox a short second.

However, in reports we heard that Google Chrome was a very unpopular browser and held only 1% of the overall market.

I believe that all browsers all equally good, but I don’t see what most people have against Chrome. Chrome runs our new Blogging Platform a dream and equally fast with out websites. I was happy to see that last month (October) the market changed for Google Chrome, and it raised from 1% to 3.7%. This shows that Google are doing something right. Now with the new release of the newest version of Chrome should bring in some more people. Seeing as some bugs were fixed.

Although we try not to be biased, the team here @ WWCTN use Firefox or Firefox based internet browsers (Flock) to do our browsing. But for ScotBlog we do use Google Chrome. This provides proficient amount of service for us to be happy with.

Anything to say about Google Chrome or any other browser?:

Mourning Begins In Mumbai

30 11 2008

Everyone probably knows about the terrorist attacks that took place in Mumbai throughout the week.  I believe I am right in saying that this event was horrific and most people would agree with me on this.

Hundreds of people were killed in this event and that this is truly horrendous that the state could let this slip past them and terrorists being able to access big hotels in the areas of where they are controlling. The mourning for the amount of people killed in this attack started yesterday as the 3 day siege on the last place that hostages were still being taken, the Taj Hotel, ended. This meant that the police could then declare the whole attack over.

Although the lives of many are still ongoing we must think about those who were in fact killed. This whole story has shown us an example that puts the “War against Terror” in full swing once again.

Any comments to make on this post?:

VAT in Britain Cut To 15% “Spend Our Way Through Recession”

24 11 2008

VAT (Value Added Tax) was today slashed to 15%. The sole reason to make consumers spend more
The message that came through was that we all have to spend our way through recession which slightly confuses me. I thought that recession was where a country had two quarters of negative economy growth. This means that there is not a lot of money.  So the word Spend seems quite weird in this particular statement I would think.

However I am not as stupid as I am starting to sound and I do know where Mr Darling is coming from because I can see that he wants people to spend more which then means that the economy will grow and everyone will be happy. VAT being cut means that less money is being paid for items.  One snag however, this will only really have an effect on larger value purchases such as new cars and laptops etc. This isn’t really that positive for someone who doesn’t eat laptops and car parts. Because some things aren’t effected by VAT and these are the essentials needed for living. So not all is well in Mr Darling’s new economic plan.

However he has proven himself worthy of keeping the British public satisfied with this drop.

The US Presidential Elections, A Success I Say. Good Choice America: Nathan’s Reflection

6 11 2008

As we all know the US presidential elections took place on Tuesday. And yes you Americans made the right choice and voted for the Strong willed man who is Barack Obama and make America a democracy once again. This i believe was the best choice in my opinion. President-elect Obama has the strongest policies. For example his Republican counter-part had some very strange policies.

McCain and Palin, the double-act, has the policy of banning abortions, even if you have been raped, by a family member/or stranger. I believe that this is absolutely ridiculous:

1. Freedom of Choice. You should be able to decide whether to keep your baby or not.

2. If you are raped you unwillingfully conceived this child and should not be held responsible for keeping a reminder of the person who raped you.

And for a second fact. McCain said that Obama would be putting too much money into the American economy…..but….. who is the one who does not believe in stopping wars. These wars are costing the American nation a LOT of money. In this current economic crisis the American Government need to think of themselves before they start wasting money. Obama is right to inject money there. This is an absolutely absurd comment on McCain’s behalf as he probably knew that it could be rebutted.

Now, To finalise what i have said in this post i would like talk about Obama’s inexperience. I acknowledge this but experience or inexperience, knowledge still plays a leading roll. All that remains to be seen by me is Obama proving his policies.

I Know i have attacked McCain in this speech so here is my nice comment. McCain fought very hard for his place in the White House and went down like a man, with dignity. Obviously the thought of maybe having another 4 years of Bush’s Republicans Shadowed it.

Sorry for making a very long post today but we haven’t posted in a while so thank you very much.

Scott’s Opinion on the US Elections

6 11 2008

The US elections are obviously a very important event as they elect the leader of one of the major countries in the world, the United States of America.

I have many opinions on the elections, and I would like to share these with you in my post.

Firstly, I would like to say that I was a John McCain supporter previously, but converted to supporting Obama after the full amount of ridiculousness and hilarity merited by McCain’s Campaign.

Basically, I think that John McCain got out of control of his campaign. He even went to the stupidity of going on to Saturday Night Live, where his campaign was demerited by Sarah Palin impersonator Tina Fey. There was an obviously frosty relationship between Fey and McCain on SNL, which added to my impressions that McCain is not a very personable character.

It was as if the producer was behind him with a large, electric whip forcing him to say these lines. It looked so forced and I must say his acting was terrible.

As a Twitter follower once said to me, “John McCain no longer cares how he wins, even if it takes away his pride and dignity”.

This statement made me think. It is absolutely true. John McCain also used a lot of ‘feel sorry for me’ techniques throughout his campaign. For example, he begun his presidential debate speech by saying that his friend was ill. This is a prime example.

One thing that I noticed was that when you saw Obama you thought ‘he means business’. However, when you saw McCain, you thought, “what an ass!”.

On the election night, I was rather nervous about who would win. I had thoughts in my head that this person would rule the USA for an entire 4 years, and once elected there was no turning back.
Luckily the American public were intelligent enough to vote Obama, so we’re safe for this term!
